Street Medicine

Street medicine is a life-saving approach that brings healthcare directly to individuals experiencing homelessness and others who are disconnected from traditional healthcare systems. Many people living on the streets face chronic diseases, untreated behavioral health conditions, substance use disorders, infectious diseases, cancer, and other serious health concerns that often go undiagnosed until they become medical emergencies. Because survival is their daily priority, preventive care is often out of reach. Harmony Health Integration recognizes that healthcare cannot always wait for people to come to a clinic; sometimes healthcare must go to them. Through street medicine, healthcare professionals, Community Health Workers, Peer Support Specialists, and community partners meet people where they are, build trust, provide assessments, connect individuals to primary care, behavioral health services, housing resources, and ongoing support. This proactive approach helps identify health issues earlier, reduce unnecessary emergency room utilization, prevent the spread of infectious diseases, improve chronic disease management, and create pathways to stability and recovery. Street medicine is more than healthcare delivery—it is an act of dignity, compassion, public health protection, and health equity that reaches some of Nevada’s most vulnerable residents where they need help the most.
